Winter activities
Alpine skiing - Mt. Lussari/Tarvisio is the local area with a gondola
serving the 2.8 mile long Di Prampero F.I.S. run and 4 additional chairlifts.
Several other ski resorts are within a short drive in Italy, Slovenia
and Austria: Sella Nevea, Passo Pramollo, Kraniska Gora, Dreilandereck,
Dobratsch and more. Local ski schools offer alpine skiing lessons as well
as telemark and snowboarding lessons.
X-country skiing - Valbruna itself has one of the most fascinating trail
system with over 10 miles of runs surrounded by the towering peaks of
the Julian Alps. Valbruna is also connected to the Camporossso/Tarvisio
crosscountry area and the Gabriella Paruzzi racing arena.
A.T. skiing - There are countless opportunities for hiking and skiing
the backcountry of the area along with several off-piste adventures served
by the lifts of many local ski areas. Guides available through the National

Dog sledding - The International dogsled-mushing school is located in
the Tarvisiano area. Please write to the International Mushing School

Snowshoeing - The beautiful wilderness of the Julian Alps and the Tarvisiano
Forest national Park are the perfect settings for snowshoeing adventures.

Ice skating - The Palaghiaccio in Pontebba, 15 minutes from Valbruna ,
was built for the World University games in 2003 and it is a state of
the art ice skating facility. Rentals available. Visit www.palaghiaccio.com
WWI history tours - This area was of vital importance during World War
I and theater of memorable pages of high mountain battles. The mountains
are dotted with ruins reminiscing the War and local expert guide are available
for guided day or overnight tours. Check out local War photo history book

Spelunking - A unique experience 350 feet in the heart of a mountain:
a non-touristy guided hike inside this horizontal cave along an underground
creek. The guide fee will include all necessary equipment.
Summer activities
Hiking - The Julian Alps are paradise for hikers: many summits can be
reached without climbing experience and equipment. Local maps show clearly
the extensive trail and hut system created and maintained by CAI, the

Climbing - Alpine climbing has a long history in the area with the legendary
Julius Kugy and his guides exploring all the peaks of the Julian Alps
in the late '800s and early '900s. This mountain range maintains a feeling
a remote wilderness that is hard to find in today's busy world. Alpine

Rafting/kayaking/canyonering - The Isonzo river which runs in Slovenia
just across the border from Valbruna, before re-entering Italy further
South, is home to many international rafting and kayaking competitions.
Local outfitters, www.isonzo.com, run an extensive program of raft, kayak
and canyoneering trips for participants of all levels
Mushroom picking - The area is rich with mushrooms of hundreds of species.
Mushroom picking is regulated in Italy so you must apply for a permit
to do it. Contact www.tarvisiano.com for permit information.

Cycling - Great riding in 3 different countries! Beautiful country roads
through the valleys of Austria and Slovenia connected to Italy via flat
scenic valleys and mountain passes where the few vehicles always show
the utmost respect for cyclists.
Fishing - Lake and river fishing available in the entire region. As fishing
is regulated by the state please contact the Tarvisio Tourism office for
fishing permits.
Mountain Biking - A paradise of valley roads, high mountain dirt roads
and single-track trails. Riding from Italy to Austria or Slovenia and
reaching several mountain tops thanks to the extensive military roads
system built during World War I. Mountain biking school and rentals available

Golfing - Tarvisio Golf Club features today a 9-hole course with the 18-hole
course completed by fall of 2004. Nearby Austria has 5 different courses
within an hour drive with Bad Kleinkircheim being the highlight, Slovenia's
Bled Golf Course (27 holes) is probably one of the most beautiful courses
in all of Europe and several course are within a 90 minute drive in Italy:
Udien Golf Club in the hills surrounding Udine and Lignano and Grado Golf
Clubs on the Adriatic Sea coast.
Golf Mini - Right in Valbruna, the only minigolf course on grass: 18 holes
to be played with a putter! Lots of fun and unexpected challenges!

The 2004 edition will take place December 1-5, with a weekend highlight
of wine tasting and special menus in all the restaurants of the area surrounding
Tarvisio and in Valbruna itself. Over 100 selected wine producers from
all over Italy present their products for this event that takes place

Aria di Festa
San Daniele celebrates its own world know "prosciutto" with a party and
eating frenzy that gathers over 100,000 people every year in September.
Friuli DOC
DOC stands for Denominazione ad Origine Controllata which means Denomination
of Controlled Origin and this event presents art, music and products typical
of the Friuli region. It takes place in downtown Udine in late September
with hundreds of exhibitors of food and wine, artisans and musicians spread
around the center of town closed to all traffic during the event. Friuli
DOC 2004 visitors reached the 1,000,000 mark!
No Border Music Festival
In the second part of July Tarvisio hosts a music festival that featured
in recent years names like Buddy Guy, Solomon Burke, Chaka Kahn, Groove
Armada, Manu Chao, George Miller, Richard Galliano, Moby, Caetano Veloso,

Festa a Valbruna
Valbruna has its own celebration in the first weekend of August when town
is closed to traffic and regional exhibitors mix with locals who open
their homes, yards and barns to show their artifacts, homemade foods and
pastries, art collections and share their village for a day! Click here

Sulle orme di Julius Kugy
Created and hosted by the Tourism Office of Tarvisio (COSETUR) this programs
offers guided one day and multiple day hike and climbs following the routes
set by legendary climber and explorer Julius Kugy, the poet of the Julian

Tarvisio-Mt.Lussari mountain bike race
A traditional appointment for mountain bikers: this race takes you from
Tarvisio to Mt. Lussari, a tough 3,000 feet climb on a dirt road where
the winners ride over 10 miles in just over an hour. You can also ride
at your own pace on any given day and reach the beautiful village of Lussari
that sits atop the mountain and the famous Sanctuary.
Le sagre dei paesi (Village Fairs)
During the summer each small village in the valley has its own big celebration:
live traditional dance music, local foods and games are featured in the
"sagra" of each town for a different weekend, Ugovizza, Camporosso, Pontebba,
Mt.Goriane, Cave del Predil, Valbruna, Tarvisio, Malborghetto…just to
name a few!
Italian First Division soccer league
Udinese is a solid force in the Italian First Division of soccer, Serie
A. Just a 45 minute drive from Valbruna, Stadio Friuli hosts every other
week a game which can provide a first hand experience of Italy's sport
# 1!
